By now you surely heard about my case: an interview for a volunteer position on the Historic
Preservation Commission turned into an Inquisition-style "executive session" during which I was
accused, condemned and showed extremely graphic obscene materials by Councilman Francis Gray.
Reporting on the case, the major local newspapers concluded:
"Time for the guilty parties here to apologize, confess and perhaps resign if there is no real
explanation." (Times Herald-Record, Feb. 5, 2007)
"Flustered Democrats rush to quell controversy" (Ulster County Press, Feb. 7, 2007)
"Ridiculous. Interviewing candidates for a town's Historic Preservation Commission should
be a public act in open session... There is nothing in the Open Meetings Law or any other law
that forbids them from discussing it. What they're really saying is 'We don't want to talk about
it.'"
(Daily Freeman, Feb. 10, 2007)
One would think that everything is quite clear.
Not so for the leadership of the Republican Committee...
Not so for anonymously "concerned Republicans"...
Not clear for Marlene Shaver who believes that we, Republicans, "owe our current elected officials an
apology for refusing to respect our democracy..." Apologize to people who torture us in a vicious, premeditated way, under town attorney's supervision?
Please read the newspapers again. Who did not respect our democracy?
It's about laws, respecting them, not hiding behind them...
Let's read again what editorials say: there is no law forbidding the Rochester Town Board from discussing the issue; they should apologize, confess and perhaps resign...
I totally lost my trust in them as town leaders. What they did to me before, during and after the interview was wrong. And wrong has no political color — wrong is simply wrong.
I hope that you can join me. Together, we need to find out the whole truth and the reason why a member of our community applying for a volunteer position was viciously attacked this way. We have to make sure something like this never happens again, never happens to your mother, sister, daughter or other family member.
Please come and help me find out WHY they did this. Democrat, Republican or Conservative, please attend the next Town Board Meeting on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Accord Fire House.
You don't have to be on my side, you just have to be fair.
