Dear Editor:
This is regarding the "Republicans are accused of vandalism" article published on April 29.
Town of Rochester Councilman Miller says he finds it suspect that when something comes up and is in any way contentious, what follows is damage, harassment or vandalism to personal property.
Mr. Miller also told the Times Herald Record that the Republican Club threw nails in his driveway.
Councilman Gray said there was damage to a new car and tearing out barn windows within days of a vote counter to what the Republican Club wanted.
At a recent Historic Preservation meeting, Francis Gray said the Republican Club would probably vandalize the Veterans Park.
These Councilmen, constantly allege actions of violence or hate by the Rochester Republican Club. NONE of which has been substantiated.
Ronald Santosky has been on the Town Board for more than 11 years. The newspaper box at his house was knocked down so many times he just left it down. He has come home at night to find a car parked, headlights off in his driveway. He has come home to find tire tracks in his yard and his storage barn door open. His business has been broken into numerous times. A vehicle was stolen and his fence was run down. His Grandson's motorcycle was stolen. I could go on and on. My point is that he NEVER accused anyone based on political affiliations. Some of these incidents were reported and arrests were made.
So, it amazes me that the Sheriff Department or State Police have not been able to issues a single summons or make a single arrest regarding any of the cases indicated by Councilmen Miller and Gray. I know that they are competent law enforcement entities so it makes me wonder how much of this is really true.
The press usually doesn't come to the audit meetings, but I am glad they were at this one. Now the public can see that it is not the imagination of the Republicans that they are constantly being accused of vandalism without a shred of evidence to back it up.
There was not one Republican in the audience during this meeting but some members of the Town Board (for the benefit of the press, I'm sure) saw fit to insinuate that the Republicans were responsible for harassment, vandalism and disturbances to their private property, with no evidence.
Kandy Santosky
