For those of you who didn't know, I guess it is now official. I have formally sent my "letter of Intent"
to run for Supervisor of the Town of Rochester to the
chairpersons of the Town of Rochester Republican and
Conservative Parties. I have made myself available for
the interview process for each party and made it known
that I will be at both parties' caucuses in order to
garner each party's endorsement for the office of
Supervisor. I will also accept endorsement
from other parties as well.
My decision to run for Supervisor is not a spur of
the moment decision. I made
the decision shortly after the Elections of 2005 and
have been working diligently since then towards a
victory in 2007. Some believe that I'm crazy for
subjecting myself to the trials and tribulations that
are part of the current political climate in our Town.
There are times in one's life when what one
believes in must dictate action. This is one of those
times. I see many things wrong in our Town. Taxes are
escalating, individual rights are threatened, and open
government is just an empty mantra by the current
administration that governs our Town. I see plans that
threaten the middle class. I worry that our seniors
won't be able to stay and enjoy their golden years. I
see an even greater exodus of our young people as
there is a lack of opportunity and affordable living
here. I believe that I bring the right set of ideas
and skills to make our Town a better place in which to
live, work and play for everyone, without the government
interferring with the daily lives of the citizens it
was elected to represent.
Many of the things I have learned during the past
couple of years have come from listening to the
concerns and ideas of fellow citizens. I believe that
God has given us two ears and one mouth for a purpose
and that a sensible person should use those God-given
resources in the same proper proportion. We don't need
a plethora of paid consultants from outside our Town
to tell us what to do when the answers should come
from the wisdom of the people that live here. We face
many challenges in our Town and rising to meet those
challenges will take a lot of hard work and
dedication. I promise that I will work tirelessly in
order to meet those challenges.
A wise man once told me to never let others paint
who you are but to paint your own picture of who you
are. That is why I will be posting my ideas and
thoughts at least weekly. At the same time I want to
hear from you. I want to know your comments, ideas,
and criticisms. I can learn from you and an open
dialogue is something that I really want in order to
better serve the needs of the citizens of our Town. I
believe that the time has come for positive ideas and
concrete plans for our Town. I will address many
issues such as fiscal accountabilty, open government,
individual property rights, and many more in great
detail. I will also address many other issues such as
zoning and ordinances proposed in our Town. I want you
to know what I stand for and at the same time I want
to know your thoughts. Government is elected to serve
the people and not the other way around. I honestly want to be
your public servant.
My campaign is not about Republican versus
Democrat. Others will
try to make it look that way but I ask you to listen
to my message. It transcends partisan politics. It is about common sense and doing what
is right for everyone. I believe that proper use of
good old common sense coupled with an eye for the
future while maintaining the values and principles
that have brought us to where we are is the key to a
great future.
Some people have expressed concern about my
electabilty and I will address issues concerning that.
I do not claim to be a perfect person. I have made
mistakes in my life and have learned valuable lessons
from those mistakes. I've also suffered from the
mistakes of others. I believe that we all are a work
in progress according to God's plan. That is why I pray
each day that I can be a better person for the next
day. I do not judge others based on their past
transgressions but on the goodness of their current
intent and where they are here and now.
This campaign will be about issues and not
personal attacks. All I ask of you is to listen and
read what I have to say and then decide. Please do not
allow others to make your decision for you. I hope
that I can earn your support and that I can serve you
as Supervisor of the Town of Rochester.
Sincerely,
Carl Chipman
